Charm City Trebles

The Charm City Trebles is a professional SSAA vocal ensemble comprised of four Baltimore based vocalists Julie Bosworth, Bonnie Lander, Claire Galloway and P. Lucy McVeigh (pictured L-R). A powerhouse quartet, this group came together originally to perform the Baltimore premiere of David Lang’s love fail in February 2023 and continue to delight audiences in the Baltimore area.

ABOUT

Julie Bosworth (Soprano) is increasingly recognized as a versatile collaborator across a wide range of musical genres. Ever a chameleon, she seamlessly transitions from “ethereal” to “the richest, most buttery tone” (Washington Classical Review).

On the operatic stage, Julie has performed with the IN Series, American Opera Theater, Raylynmor Opera, Early Music Access Project, Opera AACC, and Peabody Opera Theater, singing such roles as Phaino (Here be Sirens), Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Cupid (Venus and Adonis), and the title role in L’incoronazione di Poppea.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Julie has sung extensively with American Bach Soloists, Tempesta di Mare, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Mountainside Baroque, the Handel Choir of Baltimore, True Concord Voices and Orchestra, Washington Bach Consort, Apollo’s Fire, The Broken Consort, The Thirteen, The Peabody Consort, Hesperus, Kinnara, Baltimore Choral Arts, Istanpitta, Musica Spira, Les Canards Chantants, The New Consort, Vivi Cantando, and Zenith Ensemble.

Julie can be heard on “Isle of Majesty”, an album of original works by Emily Lau, and two recordings with The Thirteen, “The Outer Edge of Youth” and “Truth and Fable”, both produced by Acis. She resides in Baltimore with husband Corbin Phillips and their two dogs.

Bonnie Lander (Soprano) is a multifaceted professional musician whose career encompasses performance, composition, and improvisation. Immersed in the eclectic world of new and experimental music, she has performed with a wide selection of collaborators in improvised music, new opera, new chamber music, and composition.

Versatile, dramatic, with a “stratospheric legato” and a “signature ability to embody a seemingly endless supply of vocal timbres and personalities,” Lander combines an intuitive, spontaneous use of the voice with resonant operatic technique, in order to create a performance experience that is virtuosic, intimate, and sonically overwhelming.

Lander is a volunteer and performer with the High Zero Foundation in Baltimore, a member of collaborative ensemble LoveLoveLove with performers Paul Pinto and Kayleigh Butcher, and a composer of graphic and off the score notation works. Her most recent premier No Justice, No Peace was commissioned by the Tesla Quartet during the pandemic. She has a DMA in Contemporary Music from UC San Diego, a Master of Music from the Peabody Institute, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.

Claire Galloway (Soprano, Mezzo Soprano)

Scottish-American soprano Claire Galloway’s theatricality covers the gamut of “palpable pain” and “splendid, funny moments” (B.I.T.R.). This season she is a featured artist with Baltimore Musicales, is the soprano soloist in Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, and premieres the roles of Mathilde Schechter and Miriam in Arnold Saltzman’s Geniza: Hidden Fragments with the Chesapeake Symphony Orchestra.

Having performed Fiordiligi, Blanche de la Force, Vitellia, Dinah, Contessa, and Donna Elvira, she has also premiered roles in Friends House by Steven Crino, Dove’s Mansfield Park and Frances Pollock’s Stinney.

In 2022 Ms. Galloway won Second Prize in the International Clara Schumann Competition and in 2021 she was a semifinalist in the Jensen Vocal Competition.  She has performed with Lidal North in Oslo, Opera NexGen, Saltworks Opera, Opera Baltimore,Savannah Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, and Stillpointe Theatre. A recent Fellow at Songfest, the Nordic Song Festival in Sweden, and the Ravinia Steans Music Institute, Ms. Galloway’s innovative recital programing has resulted in the best-attended concert event at the Baltimore War Memorial Arts Initiative.

P Lucy McVeigh (Mezzo Soprano)

Baltimore native P. Lucy McVeigh is an avid interpreter of early and contemporary music. She currently serves as an alto and enlisted conductor in the United States Army Field Band. McVeigh also enjoys singing with the Washington National Cathedral Choirs, The Washington Bach Consort, Cathedra, and the Folger Consort. McVeigh holds degrees in music from Wellesley College and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. She is most passionate about bringing new music to life, and in her free time greatly enjoys playing board games and dancing with her husband Clyde and two wonderful kitties, Stevie and Alexis.
